HISTORY
In 2007, Coastal News Today was started by two Florida coastal engineers working at Coastal Technology Corporation — Jeff Birmingham and Walker Dawson — as a hobby and to deliver recent and relevant news for the coastal engineering and environmental industry sectors. The service was highly regarded within a small group of coastal engineers and other professionals.
In August 2013, CNT was sold to Philip Lonsdale, who successfully operated the news service from the Bahamas and Europe, developing it to be an indefensible resource for thousands of coastal practitioners.
The company pitch at the time said, “Whether you are a coastal engineer, environmental scientist, policy maker, marketing manager, or executive, the place to find the latest developments in the coastal engineering and environmental industry is on www.coastalnewstoday.com.”
That core mission remains unchanged but we’ve expanded the concept to reach beyond engineering news.
THE NEW CNT and AMERICAN SHORELINE PODCAST NETWORK
In November 2017, Philip announced publication of CNT was ending as he moved to retirement and a more leisurely life. That’s when my firm, Peter A. Ravella Consulting, LLC stepped in. We were longtime readers of CNT, going back to its founding, and it was required reading for all PARC staff.
After an intensive investigation period, we completed the acquisition of CNT in May 2018 and we’ve been very busy working to make a very good news service a great news service. We’re expanding the scope of CNT and are excited to add the American Shoreline Podcast Network, which will feature more than ten coastal podcasts hosted by experts in specific economic sectors and stakeholder interests from around the American shoreline.
The NEW, EXPANDED and IMPROVED CNT/ASPN website will relaunch in October 2018. Podcasts on ASPN went live September 3, 2018 and can be found on our splash page, www.coastalnewstoday.com, or wherever you get you podcasts.
Welcome back to CNT!
